Sheila Peters: My Journey from Dance to Energy Medicine

Sheila Peters

My goal is to promote healing in my clients on physical, mental, emotional, and energetic levels.

I have been involved with helping people feel good about themselves for over 40 years. For decades I was professional dancer and teacher of dance, and I received extensive training in body work. Since 2011, I have also been a practitioner of multiple modalities of energy medicine, and I now devote the majority of my time to energy medicine.

My goal is to promote healing in my clients on physical, mental, emotional, and energetic levels. I work with energy medicine clients individually, either in person or remotely. I also teach classes and workshops in energy medicine, body awareness, and dance. My energy medicine practice and approach to body work is informed and intertwined with decades of experience as a professional dancer and teacher.

The transition of dancer to energy medicine practitioner was spurred when I realized I had been practicing hands-on healing work throughout my dance career, and I sought out formal training. My energy medicine practice is informed by certifications as an Eden Energy Medicine Clinical Practitioner, Reiki Practitioner, and wingWave© coach and by studies in shamanic practices and Jin Shin Jyutsu. It is further enriched through years of self-directed study and honing my skills as a conscious channeler.

The dance and body work classes I teach have evolved and been deeply enriched by energy medicine as well as somatic techniques I studied during my dancing career, including Feldenkrais, Alexander, and many others. As a dance teacher, my goal has always been to encourage students to find the joy in movement and discover ways to authentically express themselves.

Trained originally as a ballet dancer, I began performing at age 18 with Concert Dance Co., Mass., a modern dance company. Other performing credits include: Repertory West, Calif.; Northern Ballet Theater, N.H.; Independent Choreographers and Composers, Mass., and additional companies on both the east and west coasts. I was a founding member of the Santa Barbara Dance Alliance and taught at universities, private studios, and prep schools including University of California, Santa Barbara; Alan Hancock College, Calif.; The Groton School, Mass.; Ventura Community College, Calif.; Ojai Valley School, Calif.; and Acton School of Ballet, Mass. I directed and founded my own schools and performing companies and choreographed for many other performing groups. I hold a BA in Dance from University of California, Santa Barbara and an MS in Leadership from Northeastern University.
